Professor Dr. Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman Dr. Abdul Rahim is a Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). From 2015 to 2017, he has served as the Director for the Centre of Corporate Planning and Quality Management, and the Chief Editor for the Journal of Muamalat and Islamic Finance Research (JMIFR) published by USIM. Professor Abdul Rahim started his academic career at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 1992. Later in 2009, he was appointed as a Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences. He has served IIUM for 21 years and held a number of administrative positions including Head of the Department Accounting and Dean of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF). Professor Abdul Rahim obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from University of East London, United Kingdom in 1990. He obtained his Master’s degree in Accounting and Management Sciences in 1994, and PhD in Accounting and Finance from University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 1999. To date, he has published 3 books, and more than 50 papers in academic journals and chapters in books. He has also presented more than 80 papers at national and international conferences. His teaching and research specialisations are on Islamic accounting, Islamic finance, Shari’ah auditing and corporate governance. Recently, Professor Abdul Rahim has been awarded the FRGS Research Grant to study and develop the Shariah parameters for accounting and reporting for Islamic financial instruments, and fair value accounting. He has successfully led a research group that developed and measured the Economics Shariah Index as part of a bigger national research project on Indeks Shariah Malaysia (ISM) initiated and sponsored by JAKIM. In 2010, he has successfully led and completed an industry-based research on Shariah Audit Framework for the Islamic financial industry sponsored by ISRA and BNM. Professor Abdul Rahim is actively involved in the Islamic financial industry. Currently, he is an Independent Director and a Member of the Board of Directors for Etiqa Family Takaful and Etiqa General Takaful. He is also a Shari’ah Committee Member for Etiqa Family Takaful and Etiqa General Takaful. Recently, he has been appointed as a member of Shari’ah Advisory Committee for the newly established Islamic bank, MBSB Bank. He is also a member of Shari’ah Advisory Committee for Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, a leading Islamic microfinance institution. He is also a panel member of Muamalat Experts for JAKIM. Previously, he has served as a member of Shari’ah Committee for HSBC Amanah Malaysia.
